IN-PERSON PASADENA | ONLINE IN CALIFORNIATherapy to help you build a life you genuinely enjoy living.
Does this sound like you?
You always say “I’m fine”... even though deep down, you feel overwhelmed and anxious.
You’re scared to reach out for help, worried that you’re broken or “crazy.”
You have big reactions that don’t make sense to you.Why do I get so mad when my partner does that?
Your childhood was great and things seem fine on paper… but it feels like a dark cloud is hanging over you. Why can’t I just be happy?
Something meaningful in your life is not working.
You want to feel happier, calmer, and more in control of your life.
I’m glad you’re here.
I'm Jill Sumiyasu, a therapist in Pasadena, California — and I know what it's like to be the person who looks fine on the outside while something quietly isn't working.
For most of my adult life, I was a successful executive in investment management. I was driven, accomplished, and always moving. What I didn't realize until my 50s was that the constant motion was doing something for me: it was keeping me from slowing down enough to feel. I had become so skilled at managing my life — my image, my productivity, my performance — that I had lost touch with my own feelings, my body, and what I actually needed.
Therapy changed that. It helped me see the patterns I had built to protect myself, and what it was costing me. That experience was profound enough that I left my career, went back to school and became a therapist myself.
Today I work with people who are often a lot like I was — capable, driven, or outwardly together, but privately disconnected, stuck, or quietly unhappy. My approach draws on depth-oriented (psychodynamic) therapy, IFS (Internal Family Systems), Somatic EMDR, and where it is helpful, ketamine-assisted psychotherapy. I work at the level where patterns actually live — not just in your thinking, but in your body and your emotional experience.
It is one of the great joys of my life to watch someone move from stuck and disconnected to present, grounded, and able to really connect with the people they love.

To learn more about working together, check out my FAQs page.
In our work together, you’ll:
understand what’s going on behind your reactions and feelings
have a safe space to talk about what’s happening
gain the skills to improve your relationships
learn to treat yourself with kindness, instead of constantly criticizing or judging yourself
feel like you can handle your life
discover a more solid vision of your future
This isn’t about “fixing” you.
It’s about creating real change—step by step.
Let’s begin, together.
When talking isn’t enough
Sometimes insight alone doesn’t create change.
If you’ve already tried therapy or self-work and still feel stuck,
I also offer ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) as part of a collaborative care model.
This approach can help you access deeper emotional layers,
soften rigid patterns, and create shifts that are hard to reach through talk therapy alone.
(Medical care is provided in partnership with Journey Clinical.)
In therapy, the most important thing is connection.
My clients appreciate that I make them feel heard. They describe me as present and calm.
As a therapist, I don’t just sit back and nod, and I won’t tell you what to do.
I will help you:
feel that it’s okay to bring your full self into the room
see what is really going on for you, both in the conscious and subconscious
make decisions that lead to a life you genuinely enjoy living
You won’t have to worry about overwhelming me. I am here for you. All your feelings are welcome – grief, fear, anger, sadness, and more.
You are welcome here.
Therapy with me is…
Whenever you’re ready, here’s how I can support you.
